Massage therapy is a treatment that involves the manipulation of soft tissues in the body, including muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It is often used to promote relaxation, relieve stress, and alleviate pain.
Massage therapy can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve circulation, relieve pain and tension, and promote relaxation and overall well-being.
The frequency of your massage sessions will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some people may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may only need one every few months. Typically once every 3-6 weeks is good for general maintenance. If you have an injury you're trying to work through or are training harder than normal for an upcoming race, it may be better to come a bit more frequently until you can go that maintenance route.
Some exercises or stretches may be suggested after our session too, so adding those into your daily routine could be extremely beneficial for your body and keep you feeling good that you don't have to come in as regularly.
After you've booked your session, you will receive an intake form to fill out, explaining any areas of concern, injuries, past history etc. At the time of the session, we will discuss areas of focus for the treatment // if you want to simply relax and let go of any stress in your life, or if you have specific aches and pains you want to relieve. Typically after the conversation, I will step out of the room so you could undress to your level of comfort and get underneath the sheets. I will uncover areas of the body that I work on as I work on them, but otherwise you will remain covered. If we're doing a more movement based/ sports massage I'd ask that you wear some workout clothes since you may have to move on and off the table.
Depending on the session, I may use my hands, forearms, elbows or knees, as well as other therapeutic tools like cups and gua sha. I will check in to make sure you remain comfortable throughout the session though I do ask that you speak up if the pressure causes any pain or if you need more in an area.
When I do a full body massage it typically involves neck, shoulders, chest, arms & hands, back, glutes, and legs. If you don't want any of those areas worked on, we would have discussed that at the beginning and I will respect your space. Face and abdominal massage may be requested as needed but I don't automatically incorporate that into my sessions, same with scalp and feet.
Once our time has ended, I will step out so you can redress and open the door. We can discuss anything that was felt, any exercises or stretches that may help you improve and check out! Depending on how deep we work you may be sore the next day, its recommended you increase your water intake after massage to help flush out everything that moved around in your system. And hopefully you'll feel great and want to come back and see me and tell all your friends!
Reiki is a Japanese word that means Universal Life Force Energy. I practice the Usui System of Healing which is the traditional form of Reiki.
"Ki" (meaning life energy) is the non-physical energy that encompasses all living things. It is also the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life.
Reiki energy flows through the palms of the practitioners hands, and is transferred to the recipient. It can be done with the hands on or off the physical body. The Reiki flows through to the energy blockages or areas that are depleted, and renews them with vital life force energy. Energy becomes balanced at every level: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Unlike massage, in a Reiki session you will remain fully dressed, and will likely lay on your back the entire session. My hands will be placed over various parts of your body as the energy transfers through. Some people feel sensations radiating from my hands, like heat or cold. Other sensations may come up such as tingling, itching, pulsating, and sometimes nothing may be felt. And sometimes things come up in the minds eye; colors, and visuals. Whether or not you feel or see anything, the Reiki is still working.
Some benefits of Reiki include:
Nothing more than what you're already paying for the session. My prices are set, no extra charges for any modalities. My massage incorporates a little bit of everything, I don't usually "just do one thing" unless thats what the client asks for. Otherwise I'm led by my intuition and your body - and of course your feedback during the session - in what techniques I used.
I ask that any cancellations be done 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment to honor my time and to avoid any charges. I would prefer the session be rescheduled within 2 weeks to avoid any fees.
Cancellations within 12 hours will require payment of 50%. No-shows are expected to pay 100% of the session before you can book any future sessions.
